About Silicon Valley Stuff
Silicon Valley Stuff is where people, who want to know about Silicon Valley, can find out about Silicon Valley, all in the one place.
Based in Palo Alto and launched in August 2006, Silicon Valley Stuff (SVS) has two main goals.
- Put all useful things about Silicon Valley in the one place;
- Encourage public participation.
Google "Silicon Valley" and you get an unbelievable 56 million hits; Yahoo returns 29.6 million and Microsoft's Live gives you over 4.5 million.
With that much information being thrown at you, it's easier to just give up. Rummaging through the blogs, PR blurb, ads, outdated sites to get to the useful practical stuff becomes a nightmare. Ironic really, Silicon Valley, the place synonymous with high tech almost self-sabotages itself with lack of information.
It is a problem, especially if you are considering relocating here from another country with no clue about what is important and what is not.
Really, the only people that do have a clue are the people living here - and that... brings us to our second goal.
The changing trends in media, together with the growth in technology are giving us, for the first time, the wickedest way to share information. Stuff written by the people for the people; collectively - we know much and can do great things.
Here at SVS, we want you to read stories from established media organizations like San Jose Mercury News and the San Francisco Chronicle, as well as individual contributors - the people that live and work here.
People living in Silicon Valley know what happens here. They know where to find great stuff, they know what is happening in their community, they know tons about technology, and most of them are passionate about living here.
This is who we need to listen to - our community.
We encourage everyone living in Silicon Valley to help us get this up and running. Everyone knows something, together we know a lot. If you would like to contribute, please contact us here.
siliconvalleystuff.com is produced by a two-person team; who, while trying to maintain a healthy home and career life in Silicon Valley, remember a time when the values and original intent of the internet were to share information freely. They are hoping to use this model as the basis for siliconvalleystuff.com.
